Elisha Principles:
Foundation – Choice and Servanthood
The Elisha Project has been written with the aim of providing a balanced, bible-based, and practical introduction to prophetic ministry for individuals and churches.
The foundational principles of the project has been based on the 1 Kings bible story of Elisha, who gave up everything to serve Elijah the prophet. Elisha also chose to pick up the mantle of anointing that Elijah left behind after being taken to heaven on a chariot. There are four key foundational lifestyle choice values to the project that are intrinsically linked, these are:
-
Humility in Service - Elisha was trained by Elijah and carried his bags, observing, and humbly serving him for six years.
-
A Sacrificial Calling - Elijah threw his cloak over Elisha as he was called by Elijah. He also subsequently chose to give up everything, his job and livelihood, and leave his family to fulfil the call of God by serving Elijah.
-
A Double Portion of Grace Granted – When the time came for Elijah to be taken up to heaven, he asked Elisha what he wanted. He could have asked for anything but chose to ask for a double portion of the prophetic grace. See 2 Kings 2:9 NIV 9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
He didn’t ask for riches, he asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit!
4. He Chose to Embrace the Prophetic Mantle. - Elisha now came under the anointing required, and learned about the responsibility of being God’s prophet. When Elijah’s season of ministry came to an end he was taken up to heaven. By then Elisha was well prepared, but he wasn’t alone as a prophet. There was a company of prophets observing all that was happening in this transfer of authority. They observed Elisha picking up the mantle Elijah had dropped then recognised the new power on Elisha as he carried out the miracle of crossing the Jordan river, thus confirming God’s prophet mandate and anointing on his life.
Benefits of Prophetic Ministry
The Elisha Project has been established as a tool to introduce prophetic ministry for the benefit of individuals, leaders and churches. The aim is to connect or reconnect to a spiritual dimension that has the potential to release and spiritual transformation. There are significant benefits to releasing prophetic ministry. These benefits include:
-
Spiritual encouragement resulting in practical application
-
Knowing that God cares about the details
-
Bringing revelation (Rhema) to the word of God (Logos), bringing breakthrough
-
Releasing breakthrough for individuals and churches
-
Building community
-
Spiritual direction and confirmation
-
Growth and inspiration
-
Healing and release by unearthing blockages
-
Release from confusion brought about by other religions, or spiritual sources
-
Dangers, and Solutions for Prophetic Ministry
There are so many people and churches that have been hurt and discouraged by insensitivity, misdirection and false prophecy. The result has been to bring immense caution and mistrust in the prophetic realm. However, God is re-establishing the sound prophecy and prophetic ministry. Recognising areas of weakness from the past, the Elisha Project recognises the deep need to rebuild trust and security in prophetic ministry by building on foundations that incorporate:
-
Voluntary accountability to church and apostolic leadership
-
A heart to serve and create safe environments
-
Encourage restoration, rebuilding and renewal
-
Encouragement to rebuild confidence
-
Always bring a redemptive message without condemnation
-
Sensitivity and accuracy born out of hearing the heart of God
Modules – Session Framework
We have therefore design four sessions to present what we hope is helpful teaching and dialogue:
-
Session 1 - The biblical mandate for the prophetic realm from OT and NT scriptures
-
Session 2 - Hearing the voice of God for yourself and languages of the Holy Spirit, discovering the myriad of ways God is speaking today.
-
Session 3 - Prophetic etiquette, judging, weighing and discerning prophetic words.
-
Session 4 - A prophet, or being prophetic?
Who will be bringing the teaching and ministry
Presenting the teaching and ministry will be Roger Grassham and Lauren Crook, and other trusted participants that understand the vision, and are experienced at flowing in the Holy Spirit, and Prophetic ministry.
Who should come and how long will the presentations take?
The plan is to run a Friday evening for introduction and session 1, and then a Saturday for Sessions 2-4. This will be interspersed with worship, and activation for participants.
What does it cost?
We don't intend to make a charge £ for the course itself. However, we would like participants to purchase £ a workbook for £8.50, and ask that our travel expenses are covered, and a love offering £ taken. If the venue is more than 2 hours from Essex then we ask that the cost £ of accommodation be provided.
